Csaba Lukács, director of Magyar Hang, criticizes the Hungarian government's media funding system, which allegedly violates EU competition law by disguising state subsidies as advertising. A formal complaint has been submitted to the European Commission, detailing how pro-government media outlets have gained unfair advantages. An economic analysis estimates that illegal state subsidies amount to 441 billion forints since 2015. The complaint highlights the distortion of the Hungarian media market, with state advertising favoring pro-government outlets while critical media struggle. The analysis also points to the establishment of a centralized media conglomerate, KESMA, which has further entrenched these practices. The complaint calls for the dismantling of KESMA to restore fair competition in the media sector. Teljes cikk (Telex.hu)
