EU finance ministers have allowed 15 member states to deviate from fiscal rules to increase defense spending significantly. This decision, supported by Denmark's Economic Affairs Minister Stephanie Lose, aims to prioritize defense capabilities amid rising security concerns. The measure permits these countries to boost defense spending by 1.5% of GDP annually for four years without penalties, as part of the EU's €800 billion 'Readiness 2030' plan. Germany is also seeking leniency but has yet to submit its fiscal plan. The new defense spending target aligns with NATO's increased goal of 5% of GDP by 2035. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
