In 2024, approximately 19,940 people died on EU roads, a 2% decrease from the previous year. Despite this modest improvement, progress remains slow. Policymakers aim to halve road fatalities by 2030 and reach zero deaths by 2050, but current trends indicate a need for accelerated efforts. Rural roads are the most dangerous, with over half of fatalities occurring outside urban areas. Urban areas also pose risks to vulnerable road users. Disparities exist among EU countries, with Northern and Western nations having lower fatality rates compared to Eastern countries. Overall, the EU's road death rate is below the global average.Kulcsszavak
