Romanian police have arrested 13 individuals linked to a scam involving stolen data used to fraudulently claim millions in tax repayments from HMRC. A 14th suspect was arrested in Preston. The gang accessed personal data through phishing and made bogus claims for tax refunds, with over £1m believed to have been stolen. A joint operation between HMRC and Romanian authorities led to the arrests, and investigations revealed that over 1000 UK taxpayers were affected. Teljes cikk (bbc.com europe)
