Astronomers have discovered a rogue planet named Cha 1107-7626, located 620 light-years from Earth, undergoing an unprecedented growth spurt by accreting gas and dust at a record rate of six billion tonnes per second. This phenomenon, previously observed in stars but never in planets, suggests that magnetic fields may be funneling material into the planet. The planet is estimated to be five to ten times the size of Jupiter and is still forming. The discovery was made using data from the James Webb Telescope and the Very Large Telescope in Chile.
