Denisz Smihal, the Ukrainian defense minister, announced a partnership between a Ukrainian company and Saab for the local production of Gripen fighter jets, set to begin assembly in Ukraine by 2033. The first Gripens are expected to arrive in 2026, following a deal with Sweden for 100-150 Gripen E variants. Training for pilots and technicians will start early next year. The Gripen, known for its versatility and cost-effectiveness, is produced by a consortium including Saab and is currently used by several countries, including Hungary, which plans to acquire more Gripens.
