Climate change is enabling cereal cultivation in previously unsuitable areas of Europe. The OatFrontiers project, involving researchers from five Northern Periphery and Arctic countries, tests various oat varieties in extreme conditions. Hrannar Smári Hilmarsson from Iceland leads the project, which aims to adapt oats to harsh climates. Nordic oats are resilient and chemical-free, with a focus on improving yield. The project has a budget of €1.6 million, funded by the European Cohesion Policy and private contributions. Findings are expected by the end of 2026. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
