Denzel Washington attended the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Spike Lee's film 'Highest 2 Lowest' and received a surprise honorary Palme d'Or from festival chief Thierry Frémaux. This was Washington's first visit to Cannes while he was performing 'Othello' in New York. Spike Lee praised Washington for making the trip.
