The renovation of the Colossi of Memnon in Thebes, Egypt, has been completed and the monument is now open to visitors. The statues, depicting pharaoh Amenhotep III, were damaged by earthquakes around 1200 BC and took nearly 20 years to restore. Amenhotep III ruled during the prosperous New Kingdom era. An Egyptian German mission, led by Hourig Sourouzian, worked on the restoration. The Egyptian government aims to attract more tourists by highlighting its archaeological wealth, including the recent inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
