The beatification Mass of Archbishop Eduard Profittlich SJ, the first Estonian elevated by the Catholic Church, took place in Tallinn's Freedom Square. Bishop Philippe Jourdan emphasized Profittlich's example of hope and courage. Originally scheduled for May, the ceremony was postponed due to the death of Pope Francis. Profittlich, who became an Estonian citizen, remained in Estonia during Soviet occupation and was arrested for his faith, dying in 1942.
