Officials highlighted the high energy consumption of general-purpose AI (GPAI) models like ChatGPT, Bard, and Gemini, and emphasized the need for tracking energy usage during training. The AI Act, effective from August 2025, aims to regulate these systems with a focus on risk and human-centric approaches.
