The European Commission has rejected a lawsuit from the Russian Central Bank against Euroclear, claiming it is speculative and unfounded. The lawsuit seeks damages related to immobilised assets worth €185 billion, which the EU is considering using for reparations to Ukraine. EU officials assert that their proposal complies with international law and that all European institutions with Russian assets will be protected from retaliation. The legal safeguards aim to address concerns from Belgium, the main opponent of the reparations loan, while the Russian Central Bank reserves the right to pursue further legal actions.
