The European Commission has introduced a voluntary Code of Practice for General Purpose AI (GPAI) to help AI providers like ChatGPT comply with the AI Act, effective from August 2. The Code includes chapters on Transparency, Copyright, and Safety, with compliance expected to provide legal certainty. However, there are concerns about the Code violating EU Copyright laws and stifling innovation. CEOs from over 40 European companies have requested a delay in the AI Act's obligations to allow more time for compliance. The Commission is assessing the Code's adequacy before its implementation.
