The European Parliament's committee on constitutional affairs (AFCO) rejected a draft plan to implement an EU body for ethical standards, following corruption allegations involving Qatar and Morocco. Despite an agreement signed by eight EU institutions in spring 2024 to establish an ethics body, the first attempt to implement it failed due to opposition from right-wing parties, including the European People’s Party (EPP). The rejection does not mean the agreement is void, and discussions on alternative methods to elect independent experts are ongoing. The situation has raised concerns about the commitment to integrity and accountability within the Parliament. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
