In Gaza, over 15,600 residents urgently need medical evacuation, but since the Hamas-led attack on October 7, only about 350 have been evacuated, mostly children. Countries like Germany, Denmark, and Austria have been reluctant to accept patients due to security concerns. Belgium has taken in 14 patients and plans to accept more. The WHO reports that Gaza's health system has collapsed, with many patients unable to receive necessary care. Italy has accepted the most patients, while other EU countries face criticism for their low numbers of evacuations. The WHO urges countries to prioritize health over political concerns.
