France’s BPCE is acquiring a 75% stake in Portugal’s Novo Banco from Lone Star for €6.4bn, marking a significant banking transaction in Europe. The deal aims to enhance services for Portuguese families and businesses, with expectations to close in the first half of 2026. Novo Banco, established in 2014 from the collapsed Banco Espírito Santo, has shown recovery with profits since 2021.
