Following the murders of teachers Samuel Paty and Dominique Bernard, requests for state protection among educators in France have significantly increased, with numbers rising from 2,218 in 2020 to 4,948 in 2023. The tragic events have highlighted the dangers teachers face when discussing sensitive topics, leading to greater awareness and utilization of functional protection, a safeguard for public servants. Despite the increase in requests, many educators remain hesitant to seek help due to concerns about the seriousness of their requests.
