Over the last five years, global investments in nuclear energy exceeded 300 billion US dollars, with Europe leading at 132 billion. The Asia-Pacific region followed with 106 billion, while North America invested 35 billion. The Middle East, Central and South America, and Africa contributed significantly less. South Africa is the only African nation with an operational nuclear plant, while Egypt is building its first. The global nuclear reactor count stands at 440, with the US having the most. The rise in nuclear investment is attributed to the energy crisis in Europe and the need for energy security and reduced carbon emissions.
