Greek authorities rescued 545 migrants from a fishing vessel off Gavdos, marking a significant operation amid rising arrivals from Libya. The Hellenic Coast Guard responded to a distress signal and successfully transferred the migrants to Agia Galini, Crete. Gavdos has become a migration hotspot due to smuggling networks exploiting gaps in surveillance. Over 7,300 migrants reached Crete and Gavdos in the first half of 2025, with many coming from Libya.
