Despite significant investments in recycling infrastructure and awareness campaigns in Greece, the country still buries around 79% of its waste, with recycling rates at only 17%. The president of the Association of Recycling and Energy Recovery Industries, Lena Belsi, attributes this to low landfill fees and a lack of awareness among citizens. The situation is particularly dire in Athens, where recycling rates are only 15%. Successful examples like the island of Tilos show potential for improvement, but overall national efforts need to be strengthened to meet EU recycling targets by 2030. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
