The EU estimates that 87 million people have disabilities, with women facing greater barriers to employment than men and women without disabilities. Only 48.1% of women with disabilities aged 20-64 are employed compared to 53.7% of men. Women with disabilities are also more likely to experience domestic violence and face systemic inequalities. In 2024, only nine countries criminalized forced sterilization, while 12 still allow it. Older women with disabilities face additional challenges, with 37% needing long-term support.
