The Hafencity area in Hamburg has transformed from a port into a major urban redevelopment project featuring a district heating system powered by CO2-free industrial waste heat from the Aurubis smelter. This innovative project, which began in 2018, connects buildings to a heating network that utilizes waste heat from copper production, significantly reducing CO2 emissions.
