Kazakhstan has intensified its fight against financial crime by closing 130 cryptocurrency exchanges linked to money laundering and confiscating digital assets worth $16.7 million. Criminal groups from Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, and Moldova used these exchanges for laundering drug trafficking proceeds. The Kazakh Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM) reported on the illicit activities and emphasized the need for licensed platforms. New security measures are being introduced to combat anonymous transactions, including personal identification for cash deposits over 500,000 tenge and biometric verification.
