The Itiner-e project has mapped 299,171 km of Roman roads, nearly double previous records, transforming our understanding of the Roman Empire's infrastructure and operations. Led by researchers from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Denmark's University of Aarhus, this comprehensive dataset covers the Roman Empire at its peak around 150 AD. The project utilized archaeological and historical sources, modern mapping techniques, and has revealed significant gaps in knowledge, highlighting areas for future research.
