Anogeia, a high village in Crete, faces freezing temperatures and relies on tourism and herding. Traditional fireplaces caused pollution and deforestation. To address energy needs and environmental issues, Anogeia participated in the COMPOSE initiative, which supported renewable energy projects. Funded by the European cohesion policy, it aimed to boost renewable energy use and reduce CO2 emissions. Nearby Rethymno also partnered with COMPOSE, introducing a cooking oil collection system for biofuel and solar panels. The COMPOSE toolbox, maintained by University of Crete students, provides municipalities with strategies for climate mitigation. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
