Mohammed Lakhdar-Hamina, the Algerian director who won the Palme d’Or for his film 'Chronique des Années de Braise' in 1975, has passed away at the age of 91. He was the oldest living recipient of this award. His family announced he died at home in Algiers on May 23. Coincidentally, the Cannes Film Festival celebrated the 50th anniversary of his film on the same day.
