Maria Kalesnikava, a leading Belarusian opposition figure, was detained four years ago and sentenced to eleven years in prison after resisting deportation to Ukraine. Her health has deteriorated significantly during her imprisonment, and contact with her family has ceased. Kalesnikava, a musician and political activist, became prominent in the opposition after supporting Viktor Babaryka's presidential campaign.
