In 2025, Hungary recorded a negative birth rate with 72,000 births, a 7.1% decrease from the previous year, marking the lowest since 1949. Deaths also declined to 10,811, leading to a natural population decline of 4,791 in December. The total fertility rate fell to 1.31. However, marriage rates increased, with 2,271 couples marrying in December. The population was estimated at 9,489,000, with some offset from international migration.
