A study published in PLOS Genetics reveals that children of obese parents, especially those with obese mothers, are more likely to be obese themselves. The research indicates that maternal genetics significantly influence a child's body mass index (BMI) beyond the child's own genetics. The study analyzed data from over 2,600 UK families and highlights the importance of both direct genetic inheritance and indirect effects, termed 'genetic nurture', in shaping children's health. The findings suggest that interventions aimed at reducing maternal BMI during pregnancy could positively impact children's long-term health. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
