Crete is facing significant migratory pressure with hundreds of migrants arriving recently. 545 migrants were rescued southeast of Gavdos and transported to Kitrenoi in Rethymno. Two additional rescue operations occurred overnight, with 62 migrants rescued in total. In December, over 1,000 migrants arrived in Crete. Greece has seen a decrease in illegal entries in 2025 compared to 2024, while Crete and Gavdos are becoming preferred destinations for smugglers.
