Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, emphasized the need for nuclear energy at a summit in Paris, citing its reliability and low emissions. Portugal, however, has no nuclear production and faces opposition from its Environment Minister, Maria da Graça Carvalho, who argues that nuclear energy is unsuitable for the country. Bruno Soares Gonçalves, a physicist, advocates for a mixed energy approach, including nuclear, to ensure energy sovereignty and decarbonization.
