Robert Fico, the Slovak Prime Minister, announced that Slovakia will block EU sanctions against Russia if they harm national interests. This statement follows a parliamentary decision prohibiting the government from supporting any punitive measures against Russia. Fico emphasized that Slovakia aims to play a constructive role in the EU but not at its own expense. He also mentioned that he will not support any measures that would halt Russian fuel imports for Slovak nuclear power plants and expressed skepticism about a sudden increase in defense spending to 5% of GDP, suggesting a gradual increase instead.
