Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death in the EU, causing 1.7 million deaths annually. While life expectancy has improved due to advances in treatment, CVD remains a significant health issue, particularly affecting men more than women. Modifiable risk factors account for a large percentage of CVD deaths. The economic burden of CVD in the EU is estimated at €282 billion annually.
