A new electronic eye implant has shown promise in restoring vision for patients with incurable age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In a trial involving 38 elderly patients, many regained the ability to read after using the device, which connects to special glasses. The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, indicates a significant advancement in treating late-stage AMD. The implant converts visual information into electrical signals to stimulate retinal cells, with 84% of participants able to read after one year.
