Tourists and locals were evacuated from Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula due to the twelfth volcanic eruption since 2021, which opened a fissure and produced dramatic lava flows. The eruption is not threatening infrastructure, and flights at Keflavik airport remain unaffected. Ongoing volcanic activity has left the town of Grindavík mostly deserted since 2023.
