Peter Vandermeersch, a prominent European journalist, has been suspended after publishing expert quotes that were actually generated by artificial intelligence. An investigation by the Dutch NRC newspaper revealed that out of 53 articles he wrote for Mediahuis, 15 contained fabricated quotes. Seven individuals quoted in the articles confirmed they never made the statements attributed to them. Vandermeersch acknowledged relying on tools like ChatGPT for summarizing reports, which led to the inclusion of inaccurate quotes.
