Organ transplantation in Kazakhstan relies heavily on living donors, with 80-90% of donations coming from living relatives. A lack of trust in the healthcare system and religious beliefs hinder posthumous donations. As of May 2025, 4,226 people are on the waiting list for organ transplants, with 300 dying annually due to insufficient donors. Kazakhstan's opt-in consent system complicates posthumous donations, as relatives must also agree. Public awareness and trust in the system need improvement for donation rates to rise.
