In 2024, over 73.8 million people in the EU were employed in science and technology, with female representation increasing from 3.4 million in 2008 to 7.9 million. Women are nearly equal in higher education (44%) and government (45%) but underrepresented in business (22%) and self-employment (25%). Gender segregation persists, but there is gradual progress towards equality. Latvia, Denmark, and Estonia have the highest female representation, while Finland, Hungary, and Luxembourg have the lowest. Women from outside the EU have lower employment rates in these fields.
