The European Union faces a severe housing crisis, with rising house prices and rents making it difficult for citizens, especially the youth, to find affordable housing. In 2023, house prices increased by 48% and rents by 22%, with young people disproportionately affected. Many spend over 40% of their income on housing, and a significant portion lives in overcrowded conditions. Housing Europe secretary general Sorcha Eduards emphasizes the need for more limited-profit housing and a shift in mentality regarding housing as a fundamental right. Some EU countries have implemented successful housing models, but a broader change is necessary. Teljes cikk (Euronews.com)
